Sexual healing (Cauto remix)/Free Download by Cauto
Interesting downtempo Garage take on Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing. Cauto has a nice sound, here is a sample of his most recent tracks posted on Soundcloud: Cauto 35/8

Stavrogin - Halves

More Stavrogin beauty. Quirkstep?

Stavrogin - Smokes Depth

So I am guessing Stavrogin is new on the scene cuz this shit is beautiful and I have never heard any of it before today. I recognize the wonderful label: B.YRSLF, here is their soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/byrslf_division

Stavrogin - Reflections EP

BYRSLF009 | STAVROGIN - Reflections EP ( Out Dec 12th @ Boomkat // 7 days exclusive ) by B.YRSLF division

This is a gorgeous EP from Stavrogin. I highly recommend a full listen through. So warm, so bright, so good.

London-based newcomer Stavrogin (a.k.a Theo Darton-Moore), a recent addition to the B.YRSLF Division roster, is yet another English teenage beatmaker with a knack for bass-music production. That said, the upstart producer's sparse, slow-motion take on the sound does set him apart from the rest of the increasingly crowded field. "Run Down," the first track from Darton-Moore's forthcoming Reflections EP (artwork above), is a mellow piece of warped 2-step with a heaving bassline and diced-up, R&B-esque vocal samples.

Pearson Sound - Blanked

Helluva tune by Pearson Sound. Reminds me of clinging to the underside of a beat up Cadillac traveling through the rain on my way to a watch/hear some slam poetry from a girl i am afraid to approach. Or something similar to that anyway.

Major Lazer - Original Don ft. The Partysquad

I am posting this cuz Major Lazer is pretty rad, but the video this track is set to is so RAD. Love how the dog almost loses its head at 2:16.

Greenmoney - Calling You

Back to some futuristic sounding UK Funky for a change. Check out that dancing keyboard lick that comes and goes and comes back again. Fresh like a produce aisle.

REKchampa - Like You

Like You by REKchampa
This guy is magician. You can tell by the magician-like qualities that shine through in this sexy tune called "Like You". Here he is performing his magic live: RekChampa - Like You Live

Fybe:one - Irenidae

Fybe:one - Irenidae
Lush, rolling instrumental tune for you here from Fybe:one. Hailing from Southwest London, Fybe:one (a.k.a. Greg Haynes) is apparently a man of many talents. He is a graphic designer, DJ, and co-head of the Shades of Grey imprint. He's recently teamed up with the Raised By Records label, who plan on dropping his tunes via 12" singles and compilations throughout 2012. Salva - Yellobone (Shlohmo & 2KWTVR Remix)

Everything Shlohmo touches turns to interesting. Pretty piece of a Salva track remixed by him and 2KWTVR.

Little Dragon - Little Man (Yours Truly)

Nice track and video from Little Dragon about entitlement and greed. I see only good things ahead for Little Dragon. Here is the track by itself, not live: Little Dragon - Little Man (Yours Truly)

Out In The Streets - Africa Hitech

If I'm not mistaken, out in the street they call it "murder". This is an amazing track to go mental to and break things around you (and possibly your ankles if you're trying to juke to it). I like the Juke/Jungle crossover sound. +1

Cadenza - The Darkest Hype (Philip D Kick Remix)

This is a nice combo of trap/slow drum and bass beat with what sounds like a Bollywood chant, funky police sirens and the ever recognizable sax riff from The Darkest Light by Lafayette Afro Rock Band (no not the riff from Rump Shaker or Back to the Hotel, know your roots).

ELOQ - Why Don't You (Lazer Sword Remix)

ELOQ - WHY DON'T YOU (LAZER SWORD REMIX) by LAZER SWORD
Here I give you a gear changing, floating remix of ELOQ from Lazer Sword. Lazer Sword might be my new favorite artist name of the month.

AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It (Lapalux's Bass Ballad Remix)

A smooth like butter remix of AlunaGeorge's "You Know You Like It" from Lapalux.

Frikstailers - Bicho De Luz (Atlas remix)

Bicho De Luz (Atlas remix) by TheAtlas
Very nice sound is created here using glitch style and backwards warped samples. Remix by TheAtlas, original is called Bicho De Luz (bug light) is by Frikstailers.

CNDO - TERMINATOR

Big UK Funky tune hereby CNDO. Apparently this one is big in Zimbabwe as well as the UK.

Champion - Lighter VIP

Nice UK Funky beat dropped here by Champion. Simplistic, beauty of a riddim.

Sully - Phonebox

Sully is an under the rader (underradarred) electronic producer that you should hear. So listen up and hear this 2-step banger of his.

The XX - Crystalised (Dark Sky Remix) (FULL)

Amazing bouncy, UK Garage like remix of this XX track by Dark Sky. Gets it moving. I heard this on my friend Bruce Blaq's most recent mix called "The Crying", you can find part 1 here.

Dro Carey - Much Coke (Cedaa Remix) & Cedaa xlr8r mix

This is another smooth remix from Cedaa. While many young producers have taken up the bass and juke mantle in the past year or two, few have done so while matching the quality of the output being produced by 21-year-old Cedaa (a.k.a. Simon Ho).

I'm liking the sneakers in gymnasium into dolphin speak at the beginning. wtf? I like the original production oozing from this dude's mind. Here is a really fresh mix he did about a month ago for xlr8r too.

Modern Science DJ mix - Genre Jumping Jesters (part 1 of 2)

I don't always post all of my mixes on this blog because much of the time they are not in line with the theme of this blog but in this case I wanted to share it. Assuming most of the readers of this blog are open minded musically (and recognize that as a DJ you can't rock obscure electronic music on repeat and get paid, shame that) you should enjoy at least the originality of the mix. Modern Science is a collective - you can follow myself on Twitter: @MadCoins and BruceblaQ on Twitter: @BruceblaQ

BruceblaQ and MadCoins (these are links to our mixcrate homepages where you can download more of our free mixes), 2 alchemists from the Modern Science collective, mix together some current underground remixes and some forgotten overground gems for a science lesson in how to create an genre jumping dance party. This is part 1 of 2 of a live mix from Natt Spill bar recorded 10/15/11. Part two will be posted next, 2 hours in total.

Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX - I'll Take Care Of U (Special DJ Version)

I don't know if I am more sad that Gil Scot-Heron has died or more happy that Jamie XX worked with him right before his death. His voice is such an intricate part of music yet he is so unknown to the masses. I just can't say enough about how much he "deserved" the exposure and 21st century sound that Jamie XX so respectfully helped him find.

Jamie XX - Essential Mix (2 hours on BBC radio)

Jamie xx Essential Mix by Young Turks
Speaking of Jamie XX, sit back and melt into this 2 hour mix he recently sewed together for BBC radio. ESSENTIAL!

Far nearer (Nadastorm & Sabo Moombahton Edit)

I posted the original version of this track a while back but had to also post this moombahton remix as it is massively beautiful. Jamie XX always makes me feel better.

Jacques Greene - Another Girl

This is such a nice track. You got me feelin like a...

Jacques Greene - The Look (Koreless Remix)

Beauty of a remix by Koreless. I will post the original "Another Girl" by Jacques Greene next, also a beauty.

Four Tet - Pyramid (Video 2011)

Four Tet FTW on this ass shaker of a dance track. The video, from Destino, a collaboration by Salvador Dali and some animation company, suits the piece nicely. "This mix is not about my DJing. It's about London and fabric and nights out and my take on all that. The memories and the influences. I used old and new music, I used recordings of fabric, and I made new tracks of my own for it. I hope people play it fucking loud and lose their minds in it and remember or imagine what it's all about." - Four Tet

Theo Parrish - Dirt Rhodes

Theo Parrish can produce electronic beats that make you move your feet. No surprise he is from Detroit. He is known for his Deep House cuts but I personally like his tracks that are abstract, less melodic and less Deep House sounding. The man often does in his production what I, and countless other producers, have felt is an essential part of producing: He records sounds from his environment to sample, study and learn from. Field recording can definitely learn you something special about audio.

"Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn Deejaying into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement." - Theo Parrish

Ooah - Hacksaw

Beauty of a glitch track right here. One of the best glitch tracks I have heard in a long minute. This is the type of glitch good modern freestyle dancer will become possessed by. And because we are all freestyle dancers, I say become possessed with this one right now. I know what your thinking, "Oh I couldn't, I'm at Grandmas house what will she think?" She'll dig more than anything since the Charleston, go for it.

Mount Kimbie - Carbonated [Crooks & Lovers]

...cuz i feel like i have been listening to this sound for about 13 years now and to me it has sounded like the future the whole time, not just now. Beat by Mt. Kimbie.

Mossilator - Bolero

Mosillator - Bolero 192 kbps - From Filtered Forest EP coming soon..
This is quite an epic sounding global bass production from Mosillator. Mossilator wants his identity to remain unknown, to shift the focus from the maker to the actual music. If you know who he is then do that imaginary key to your lips and then throw away motion to help him out.

Dreams of the Elementary Wood by Natasha Miroshnichenko

Dreams of the Elementary Wood from Natasha Miroshnichenko on Vimeo. More Nobukazu Takemura set to a nice piece of stop motion. Regretfully I forget the name of this Takemura track (it goes on for much longer than the length of this video) but if it comes to me I will be sure to update this post. I encourage the comment if you know what it is called.

Nobukazu Takemura - Toybox With Moonshine

Nobukazu Takemura is one of my very favorite electronic producers in the history of the universe. I am posting a track that sounds like a conversation unheard by human ears between toys inside of a toy box. What makes this track is brilliant is that one can hear electronic, punk, drum and bass, and experimental, esoteric goodness all wrapped up in one toy box of a track. Warning: this is full of audio madness, if you can't get down with some of Aphex Twin's more "out there" music don't even bother listening to this as it will probably cross your eyes and give you a head ache.

Aki Tsuyuko - Rainbow Train

Here is a floating little dreamworld like track from Aki Tsuyuko. I was just watching the NASA time-lapse video of earth from space (my last post) with this as the soundtrack. It works pretty well together and has a different effect (no better or worse in my opinion just beautifully different) than the Jan Jelinek track it is embedded with. It is a really nice track to just drift away to.

Jan Jelenik - Do Dekor (set to gorgeous time-lapse view from space)

Earth | Time Lapse View from Space, Fly Over | NASA, ISS from Michael König on Vimeo.

I have posted this Jan Jelenik track previously on this blog but never with such a stunning visual experience. This is one of Jan Jelenik's best tracks and I am crazy glad Michael Konig chose it to use as a soundtrack for this time-lapse piece. There is something very earthly and human about this track but, at the same time, the way it sounds it is anything but earthly and human. Did that make any sense? Don't answer that.

Answer this: What’s it like to fly above Earth and observe the landscape? This new time-lapse video from Michael König shot aboard the International Space Station gives you a view of Earth that was only available to a select handful of astronauts until now.

Witness the swirling Aurora Borealis from above, or effortlessly glide across the world’s largest deserts in seconds. At minute 2:26 you can see lightning storms over the Sinai Peninsula, as the ISS flies north and east towards Turkey and Central Asia. And if you watch closely throughout, it’s not difficult to make out major landmarks, such as the Nile River in Egypt, the Great Lakes, in the U.S., or the boot shape of Italy.

Time lapse sequences of photographs taken with a special low-light 4K-camera by the crew of expedition 28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October, 2011. All credit goes to them.

Space is the place!

Nicolas Jaar - Hey Boy

Nicolas Jaar will kick your preconceived notions of music in the face and clean his boot off with your hair if you dare doubt his talent. Dude is on something the rest of us are not and he is gonna keepon.

Moogfest - Featured on NPR

It has been a while since I posted some history of the electronic scene so here is a great hour plus program on NPR's All Songs Considered about the recent Moogfest (honoring Robert Moog, inventor of the Moog synthesizer). I have not yet been to a Moogfest but I plan to go to Ashville, N.C. one of these years to experience this unforgettable gathering of new and old school electronic artists. This comes highly recommended.

If it weren't for Robert Moog, a lot of the music you enjoy today might not have been possible. As inventor of the Moog synthesizer, he gave rise not only to the technology needed for modern electronic music, but also to the creative spirit that inspired countless musicians to take his vision and play with it, mold it and reshape it into mind-blowing works of art.
2 weekend ago, a remarkably gifted group of electronic and experimental rock artists gathered to celebrate Moog's genius in Asheville, N.C., for the annual Moogfest. All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen and NPR Music reporter Jacob Ganz were there and, on this week's show, report back with some of their favorite discoveries, including music from Amon Tobin, The Field, Tangerine Dream and Tim Hecker.
Brian Eno also presented his breathtaking sound and visual installation 77 Million Paintings, and the influential minimalist composer Terry Riley performed for nearly two hours. There were DJ sets from Flying Lotus and James Murphy, as well as prog-rock from Battles.

Awolnation - Sail (Dance performance by Arthur Cadre)

Break ton Neck from Alex Yde on Vimeo.

It's been a minute since I posted some brilliant dancing so here is Arthur Cadre’s amazing breakdance performance to the song “Sail” by Awolnation. Just watch it, you'll be glad you did.

Free mixes by DJ MadCoins - The Sunday Supper sets

Enjoy 3 new sets of music (vols 1 & 2 are posted there as well) from my Sunday residency at TenOak in Austin, Tx. They are all full of genre jumping goodness. The mixes are all a bit different but include soulful hip hop, soul,  downtempo, reggae, world beat, breakbeat, rock, left field remixes, mashups and moombahton. These sets are meant to help you listen away the hangover from Saturday night and let you forget the dread of Monday morning work. As always free downloads are available. Enjoy.

Shlohmo - Couch (Soosh Remix)

And speaking of perfect for a chill listening session on a late fall day, check this piece out. This one is sooo slow it almost goes backwards. Great for contemplation and relaxation.

Soosh - Bramhall Waits

Bramhall waits by Soosh
A nice wonky, almost ambient electronic piece from Soosh. Perfect for a listen with late fall weather howling at your windows.

Hackman - Close

Big tune from Hackman. Samples the Alecia Keys track "No One" in a slowed down fashion.

Jay Fay - Jungle

Jay Fay - Jungle by El Cuco Recordings
A monster Moobahton track from Jay Fay from the newly released album: The Rise of Moombahton “Today We Were Kings". I give the album a C+ but this particular track an A. But it must be noted I am not a teacher so my grading scale really means fuck all. I love the drum patterns, the jungle field recording samples, kalimba like sounds and the fact that synth sounds/stabs aren't too much of the focus like in a lot of Moobahton tracks.

Ambassadeurs - Come A Little Closer E.P.

Come a Little Closer E.P by Ambassadeurs
I just discovered Ambassadeurs and I quite like what I hear. My favorites are Come A Little Closer and Can We Pretend. The Marvin Gaye remix is no joke either. You can find their first EP here on Bandcamp as well.

Omar & Zed Bias - Dancing (Jensby & Sam Young Remix)

I have to say I am pretty impressed with this remix by Jensby & Sam Young Remix. They take it out of the UK Funky realm but place it in a whole other realm of goodness. Smoothed out bouncing beat stylee.

Omar & Zed Bias - Dancing

It's been a minute since I posted some fresh ass UK Funky beats so here is some quintessential UK beat love for you. Everything about this track makes me miss living in the UK quite a bit (sadface emoticon). Odd that this particular track could ever make one sad... Anyway, I have spinnin a lot of UK Funky in my spare time and in my sets when the dancefloor is ripe for it and people's asses seem to respond nicely. But...I have a strong feeling that this sound is gonna creep into American pop music now that it has been mega popular in UK for about 3 years. I have heard elements of it already and it creeps me the fuck out. I know I'm gonna wake up some horrific morning and hear Kesha "singing?" over a UK Funky beat on Z100: all of todays shit hits, nothing more, nothing less.

Enjoy it while you can fellow underground heads, it is here today and over saturated tomorrow. The saving grace is amazing tracks like this will never be heard by the Z100 listeners.

This track by Addison Groove is a steady, stellar banger. Best track from Addison Groove yet if you ask this bloke.

Boards Of Canada medley - DJ Food

Sometime In The Future by DJ Food
Wowwy! DJ Food dices up some Boards of Canada to create a tasty meal for your third eye.

Shackleton - Blood on my Hands

Epic tune from Shackleton. In my opinion, this is one of the best "debut" tracks in the history of electronic music. I say debut because it is what put him and his label Skull Disco on the map (he might have had tracks available before this one, I'm not sure). It is his own spoken word poem about the fragility of life/structures in relation to Sept. 11th layered over a relentless beat that never gets old. It is a heavy and rather unforgettable debut. TRAXMAN - THE COMEBACK

I'm posting more Juke because I just woke up in the middle of the night, paced and came to the conclusion that you need more footwork in your life. So here is Traxman off the Bang + Works compilation album from the Planet Mu record label.

Krueger - Nou

Nou (OUT NOW!) by KRUEGER
We've got a global vibe future electronic underground drum heavy choon for the dancefloor here from Krueger. Who knew Freddie was tired of murdering people in their dreams and was now working on solid cuts in a totally different way. See what i did there...

Sepalcure - Deep City Insects

Deep City Insects by Sepalcure verges on being too house sounding for me but it stops just short, in a certain sweet spot. It utilizes spacey effects, and airy, stuttering vocals to keep it unique sounding.

Monolake - Macau

Macau, from 1997, is the earliest piece of Monolake's I will post. Warning: This one will cause involuntary foot tapping, head nodding and possibly funny face making to the beat. Rolling beats and big ping pong reverbs in all the right places along with the steady dub beat in the background makes it a solid winner.

Monolake is an open project dedicated to computer generated music, birthed in Berlin and founded in 1995 by Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles (who created the software company Ableton in 2000).

Monolake - Infinite Snow

To show Monolake's diversity I am going to post multiple selections of this great music all sounding quite different from one another and spanning the last 15 years. This one, Infinite Snow, is a really beautiful beat driven piece with thick bass and a zither type instrument combining to make it nicey nice.

Monolake - Gobi The Desert EP in FULL!

This is a very happy post for me. Artists and songs from my listening past float in and out of my head and sometimes when they float out they don't return for a few years. Though this is unfortunate, they always return, usually at fortunate times. I digest a lot of media and sometimes some of my proven personal favorites get relegated due to the room I need for new storage and constant consumption in my bird brain. Today, while listening to the crickets in my yard, at long last Monolake flashed back into my mind's ears. I haven't posted Ambient for a while and it is the perfect time of year for this particular EP called Gobi - The Desert EP. All 37 minutes of it sounds great on a fall night when the crickets are singing their late summer songs (Seriously, put it on when you can hear a cricket/insect symphony and it is an amazing audio experience that will sound different every time you listen in this manner).

This EP, (and much more music) helped get me through some really dark times. The times when people can no longer help you any further, that's when music means the most. In my experience, I notice people traditionally reach for singers and more familiar music when they are hurting (probably due to them wanting to be comforted and familiar music often equals comfortable music). Personally, I always found that when I am hurting there is usually a fair amount of confusion in me and familiar music makes me well...almost angry. When nothing is normal anymore and the world as I know it has been flipped upside down, the last thing I want to reach for is something normal, familiar or expected (there is no comfort there for me, it only makes my head scream in the face of all the confusion). There is an element of naivete in my head scream that says, "Remember last time you felt comfortable, yeah, it was right before "said fucked up thing" happened." When things are abnormal I want music with at least a slight element of WTF, I feel less naive when I listen to it I guess. Familiar, especially vocal, music in these times is often far too direct for me and doesn't allow for interpretation or contemplation near as much as certain abstract or ambient music (of course this may differ depending on how much hurt and in what situation I find myself in). Gobi - The Desert EP really allows for mental space that a lot of music, event a lot of ambient music, does not allow for and I am grateful it exists. I hear elements of silence, confusion, chaos, contemplation, meditation, anger, innocence, laziness, struggle, past memories and future questions. To sum it up: the sound of blunt existence and all that comes with it. I wish you Zen-filled listening.

qp - Sol Jerk (Norrit Remix) by Norrit
Ill, sick, feverish, bed-ridden? new remix by Norrit.

Norrit - N Gbekinho

This track by Norrit is just weird and disorienting enough to make the cut on my dance floor. Loving the world electronic vibe.

Dubbel Dutch - B Leave (remix by Nguzunguzu)

'B LEAVE' SINGLE - FORTHCOMING UTTU w/ NGUZUNGUZU RMX (96kbps) by dubbeldutch
New ish from Dubbel Dutch, I really like the remix by Nguzunguzu. Dig it like graves.

Ayshay - WARN-U (Nguzunguzu Remix)

Here is a rather ill Nguzunguzu remix. It is your daily dose of Wha happened? Wha the ffff? Why? Whoa. If it doesn't make you feel quite that way then a sure fire way is to light some candles, smoke some Chuga del Diablo and listen to the original while watching the video. That should at best melt your skull or at least awaken dormant spirits that live in your residence.

Ini Kamoze - Here Comes the Hotstepper (Booyaka Remix)

I know you were sick of this song already in 1977 or whenever this came out but this remix is jungle fire and had to be shared. DREAD AT THE CONTROLS!

DZA - Zoo Keeper (Salva Remix)

Another quality Salva remix but this time on a funky glitch vibe as he remixes DZA's Zoo Keeper (which is good in its own right).

Salva - Sumn Bout Dis Girl

SUMN BOUT DIS GIRL ("That Girl") by SALVA
Snoop rhymes with Juke, Pharrell is fantastic and now Salva has created a fantastic Pharrell & Snoop Juke. Dig it. (I would have posted this with the slew of Juke I posted last week but only just discovered it.)

Dj Mehdi - Signatune (T. Bangalter Edit) (Official Video)

DJ Mehdi died in a rooftop collapse today. Rest In Beats DJ Mehdi. Thank you for leaving us your greatness to pass on to others. It is not fair that you were taken so soon. Sending positive energy to your friends and family so that they deal with this mountain of crushing grief a little bit easier.

Hip Hop + Moombahton = Moombahop

Moombahton is a new genre of music that has been getting mixed reviews lately. Some people love it, some yawn, others hate it. I personally don't so much like the repeated high pitched synth tones that have been present in a lot of it, I do however like the sound of Hip Hop remixes, beats and samples when used with the Moombahton sound. So this is my mix of Moombahop with some melodic, Latin feeling Moombahton mixed in between. The link above will take you to the mix.

Crossroads Records Compilation - Bass, Deep, Ambient, Downtempo

CRSRDSFREE01 by crossroadsrecordsmusic
I am impressed by the textures of some of these tracks from Crossroads records. This is a new compilation of artists from the U.S., U.K., and The Netherlands. From 2-Step and on to the deeper side, this compilation is focused on Bass. These tunes are packed with low frequencies that will please the desires to not only hear good music, but to feel good music. Nice ambient soundscapes and bass is delivered throughout the compilation with each track often quite different from the last. Scroll down to 10 or so if you want to hear more 2 step sounding textures.

Best remix you will hear today. Little Dragon + Gifted & Blessed = Slept on win

Jamie xx - Far Nearer

I liked Jamie xx's early work a lot, then he did legendary work with Gil Scott-Heron months before he passed away... now I love his work and want to send him a note that says I love you, do you love me? If you do will you go to the dance with me? Check yes or no and return.

Starfoxxx - Ice Cream

Starfoxxx - ice cream by starfoxxxchicago
So I have obviously been listening to tons of Juke the last few daze and trying to pick out some gems for alls you. The only thing I haven't liked about it is that I keep feeling compelled to listen to Juke before I go to sleep which makes shutting down tough and makes me dream funny. I fell asleep listening to this last night and dreamed that I was playing Nintendo and eating neapolitan ice cream in a huge bowl on my lap while two round booties about the size of double basketballs bounced against my head on either side. It was a glimpse into Juke heaven?

Daniel Haaksman feat. MC Miltinho "Kid Conga"

I love this creepy kids vocals over this mean tribal beat.

Cedaa - Nippon (Myrryrs Remix)

Really slick sound comin out of Cedaa (Myrryrs on the remix here). This exists exclusively in 2012 because 2011 still isn't ready for this sound.

KEISKA - Tearjerk

KEISKA - Tearjerk (forthcoming BYRSLF-PRM006) - Free DL soon by B.YRSLF division
A Juke beauty right here. Taken from BYRSLF-PRM006 | HIRSHI vs KEISKA - "Subtle Suite / Tearjerk"

GroTTo. - LiL JaBBA (Footwork 2011)

The one of the longest, most epic Juke tracks I have heard yet. It blasts off from Chicago (though Lil Jabba is from Bmore) and just keeps going into the outer reaches of this universe.

Lil Jabba - MaSTeR KeY

MaSTeR.KeY by LiL ♎ JaBBA
Some dark Juke from Lil Jabba which goes hard.

Lil Jabba - Goons

GooNs. by LiL ♎ JaBBA
Minimal, atmospheric sounding Juke from Lil Jabba. Check this kid's (I assume he is a kid but am hoping its an old man just for wtf points) Soundcloud page for more freshness, he has quite a few tracks posted.

Jonti - Firework Spraying Moon

Jonti is on officially on the scene with this track right here. You can listen to his forthcoming album (Oct release) over at Stones Throw and you can listen to a sick mix called Shine N' Moon he just threw together over at Stones Throw here. From the artist: “Sine N' Moon is a collection of songs I made before i started to work on Twirligig. It starts with the first song i ever recorded called ’Saturday Night Songs’. While Gathering around a 4-track on a Saturday night doesn't exactly paint the perfect adolescence out of a Skins script (Ukulele solo's don't help either) It does show the role and beautiful friendship I've had with music since i left South Africa." Best of luck to you Jonti.

Bibio - Willenhall

Bibio with some solid "computer music" as my Grandma would call it. Just kidding my Grandma is dead and probably wouldn't be interested in listening to it long enough to comment in any fashion at all.

Riffs - Don't Leave Ur Girl Round Me

Who is this Riffs cat? And how is he channeling Chicago sound so well from Bristol, UK?

Clicks & Whistles - Raw Passion

Just discovered Clicks & Whistles so thought I would share. They have some pretty slick production like this going on in a lot of their tracks.

DJ Rashad - I'm Gone

A great Chicago Juke remix of Gil Scott-Heron's "Home Is Where The Hatred Is" showcasing DJ Rashad's unique sampling style. R.I.P. Gil, we in the music world know very well you are gone.

Matanza - Temazcal

Great track from Matanza whose sound usually is too much house and not enough world sound for my taste, not here. I so wish the average dance floor crowds would eat this beat up more. I say, think with your ass more and your conditioning less and we'll all have a better party.

Beach - Side9000

Side9000 - Homework EP by meanbucket
Some pretty Chicago Juke from a Czech Dubstep producer. Diversity!

Clouds - Shallow [Mungo's HiFi RFX]

Have to love the "big" sound that comes from the use of Joanna Newsom's "little" vocals on this one.

Pretty Lights - Fly Like An Eagle (Remix) [Unreleased 2010 Remixes]

Speaking of fresh, fantastic Pretty Lights and remixes, dig their "Fly Like An Eagle" remix. It is remixed better than anybody else who has ever tried to remix Fly Like An Eagle. I like the end result of combining the squishy bass of Pretty Lights, the rhymes of Rakim from "I Know You Got Soul" and the singing of Steve Miller Band. 3 champions of music in one track. If you are gonna touch anything Rakim has ever done, you better do it well (SMB is no slouch either) and Pretty Lights def does it well.

Pretty Lights - Finally Moving (Shane Martz Remix)

Pretty Lights- Finally Moving (Shane Martz Remix) by Shane Martz

I have to say when I first listened to this remix I was waiting for the beauty of the song to be murdered by some too heavy wobble bass drop or overpowering synth as is becoming all too common now that just about anybody can remix. Quality remixes are becoming even more valued by us music lovers because there are so many bad ones released these days. To my surprise, the cheshire cat like grin that was on my face by the end of this remix meant Shane Martz knows how to remix and keep the integrity and beauty of the original (and possibly also cringes when a bad remix kills said integrity/track).

Yolanda Be Cool - Villalobos for Presidente (Dubbel Dutch Remix)

Mad nice UK Funky remix of a Yolanda Be Cool track by Dubbel Dutch.

Synkro & Versa - She Said

Synkro fix thoroughly completed. +1, advance to next level.

Synkro - It's

More Synkro!

Synkro - Distant Feeling

Beautiful tune from Synkro. This kid can def produce.

Bob Ross Goes Hard In The Paint, Dubstep Style

Waka Flocka 'Hard In Da Paint' (Bob Ross vs Dubstep vs Jordan Laws) from ScreenWerks on Vimeo.

This shit is best described as fucking hilarious. Love Bob Ross, hate Wack Flocka but dubstep and humor bridges my love and hate here nicely.

Synkro - Back Then [dubstep for deep heads]

Synkro-Back Then-Dubstep for deep- heads [Free Download] by Dubstep For Deep Heads

Lovely harp laden Garage from Synkro. I have always thought that "dubstep bass", that was used in Garage music first, sounds so good in crossover styles like this one. Best of both worlds.

Downliners Sekt - negative green

Downliners Sekt played my mood today with this track. "One day they are going to figure out how to use bass frequencies to heal people from pain."

Sonara & Zuzuka Poderosa - Tamborzao Dub

A dub track from Sonora & Zuzuka Poderosa off their new album "Sonora Remezcla: Zuzuka Poderosa". They slow down the "I Like To Move It" beat and make it more sexy with the Cumbia sound. The whole Cumbia laden album is a FREE DOWNLOAD!

Die Antwoord - Beat Boy (Full Song)

Die Antwoord's rhymes go on and on, I'm exhausted after listening to this nasty novel of a song.

2 Bit Thugs - Before You Knew

2 Bit Thugs - Before You Knew - FREE DOWNLOAD by 2 Bit Thugs
Nice souled out Garage tune by 2 Bit Thugs. Deep bass, Heard It Through The Grapevine samples, synth layers and a Garage drum beat = affection for perfection.

Aphex Twin - On

Ok, maybe he isn't the boss of electronic music, maybe he is more like the Salvador Dali of electronic music...?

Aphex Twin - Donkey Rhubarb

Aphex Twin is how you say... "El Jefe de Musica Electronica". Now dance like a freak in a bear costume!
Schlachthofbronx - Mudders EP by Mixpak
Schlachthofbronx is has four new tracks filled with dancefloor fire. Canblaster's remix spreads the fire to adjacent buildings.

Burial - Archangel

My favorite Marvel comic character growing up was/is Archangel. I think Burial made this track for him and I believe he is somewhere on a mountaintop listening to this right now. This is one of my favorite Burial tracks out, thanks for reminding me ;-)

Burial- Street Halo (hq)

Burial, as we all know, produces some amazing shit. This is one of my favorites called "Street Halo". A wonderful soul in Madison just reminded me how brilliant his production can be. *tips hat

How To Dress Well - Ready For The World (Star Slinger Refix)

How To Dress Well remixed by Star Slinger. His production is very bright and driven by UK sound. You can fight amongst yourselves about which remix is better, meanwhile, the sun will be high and so be will I.

How to Dress Well - Ready For The World (xxxy remix) [FREE MP3]

And to combine the last two tracks, I give you How To Dress Well remixed by xxxy. Love the drums, their drop out and come back. It ends up giving it both a modern and 80s sound simultaneously. For the cross generational lovers.

How to Dress Well -- Ready For the World

Nice love-filled, floating track "Ready For The World" by How To Dress Well. It warms a lonely heart. Thanks for the summer memories...

XXXY - This Much

Synth layered track from xxxy. This one has remained under the radar (809 youtube views) as far as i can tell. When You Love Someone This Much You'll Turn Back Time.

Kingdom - Take Me ft. Naomi Allen

I can't say anymore about Kingdom than the top Youtube comment for this video does: "No one can touch Kingdom right now. Dude is unstoppable."Agreed. Too bad more people don't know said dude exists, their ears would welcome knowledge of this man's production (as I hope yours do).

Jodie - Moments In Heartbreak (LOL Boys Edit)

"Moments in Heartbreak" by Jodie remixed by LOL boys. This is what lost love sounds like in the future.

Koreless - Up down up down

Not sure how I slept on this Koreless kid for so long but I'm glad I found him. This track doesn't infatuate me near as much as his 4D track (posted here last week) but it is still damn good...

Africa Hitech - Too Late Dub

Here is some futuristic sounding dub by African Hitech whose "Blen" (which is in contrast to this chill number) I posted recently here. I just posted this over at my other blog MadChange too. For those of you who read this blog and don't know, my MadChange blog contains (mostly) world music (heavy on cumbia), Future Soul, Chillwave and J Dilla type beats. Dig it like a gopher.

Albert - Darling Now

Fresh UK Funky track from Albert. Released April 2011 on Studio Rockers label.

MJ Cole & Wiley - From The Drop [Hint Remix]

More Wiley cuz it is such good Grime. UK always churning out top chunes.

Wiley - To Be Continued...

Wiley, always a beast on the mic, has just released an album titled "100% Publishing". This is "To Be Continued" off said album. Support the Grime king with a purchase if you like it.

Downliners Sekt - All I Can Hear Now

Dubliners Sekt has been creating some "burial-esque" type sounds lately that I have been listening to late at night. This is one of there more active sounding/pretty pieces.

Rainbow Arabia - Without You (Nguzunguzu Remix)

I am a huge fan of this type of instrumental remix. Nguzunguzu and Kingdom have been 2 of my favorite 2011 artists because of their work on this type of sound which bridges warm acoustic and electronic sounds into a one beautiful wrap.

Nguzunguzu - Timesup

If you didn't know about the new Nguzunguzu EP (that came out I think in June 2011), now you do.

Ratatat - Drugs (Nguzunguzu Remix) |HD

Nice remix of Ratatat's "Drugs" by (say it with me) Nguzunguzu.

Nguzunguzu - Wake Sleep (TOTAL FREEDOM Winter Park Homicide Edition)

Mysterious sounding mix of Nguzunguzu's Wake Sleep. Metallic and water sounds abound during wake time and sleep time. They are often muted but not here during Wake Sleep.

Dead Prez - It's Bigger Than Hip Hop (Ritchcraft Remix)

Mad good Richcraft remix of "Bigger Than Hip Hop" by Dead Prez.

Koreless - 4D

Koreless, a very young lad from Glasgow, Scotland, is making outstanding songs these days. Here is one that is perfect for letting the troubles of the day drift away/pondering which troubles will find you tomorrow/ponding how to get to a point where there are no more troubles.

Egyptrixx Chrysalis Records (ft. Trust)

Because Egytrixx can do little wrong, here is another one from them. UK Funky beat on a nice slowdown pitch with vocals from Trust.

Africa Hitech - Blen (Remix)

I meant to post the Garage remix of Blen just now but posted the original. Here is the remix with plenty fat bass, now you get two for one.

Africa HiTech - Blen

Wicked ragga/electronic track from the team of Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek.

Ramadanman - work them

Ramadanman dropping a nice beat that drifts between 2-Step, Bmore and UK Funky. Nicey nice.

Egyptrixx - DRIVE U CRAZY

Egyptrixx mixes up something funky with "Drive U Crazy". Best bit is the first minute and a half.

Vampires of Dartmoore - Dance of the Vampires

Ultra-rare psychedelic, electronic (pre-Krafwerk) German tune for your listening pleasure.

Sunday, July 17, 2011

DJ C - Nu Strut

This is DJ C, the inventor of a genre of music called Boston Bounce. He is a great DJ and producer right down the road from me in Chicago (I'm staying in Madison at the moment). Check out his website for more wicked tunes: http://www.dj-c.com/

Oval - Do While (1/3)

One of my favorite ambient electronic pieces in the human construct of time. Oval was ridiculously ahead of time/weird. This is Part 1/3 of a 24 minute track called "Do While". This track is much easier to soak in if you should happen to set certain weeds that grow in your vicinity afire.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Isolée - Simone Rides

Here is some nice minimal from microhouse producer Rajko Müller aka Isolée. The album is Western Store (1998).

Cardopusher - Nice Up (feat. Juakali)

Another one off Cardopusher's new album. This one is featuring Kenyan artist Juakali adding more of a future dancehall vibe. The beat reminds me of "Wile Out"by Ms. Dynamite (posted here a wile back).

Cardopusher - Coppertoned Punch

Hot new UK Funky beat from Cardopusher off his new album Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up.

Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx - 'NY Is Killing Me'

Because the world can never have enough Gil Scott-Heron, I feel the need to post this Jamie XX remix of his track "New York Is Killing Me" off of his final album. *Sigh.

Gil Scott-Heron Tribute Mix by Gilles Peterson

Gil Scott-Heron Tribute Mix by Gilles Peterson by gillespeterson

If you don't know who Gil Scott-Heron is, I do not like your taste in music. Or your taste, at least, needs some tweaking/educating in order for me to like it. The man is a legend and he became "was a legend" as soon as he passed away 10 days ago. He defined an era, was as proto hip hop as it gets and had so much socio-political substance to his music it is hard to fathom in this era of substance lacking lyrics in music. Man I miss substance. Man I miss Gil. Enjoy this Gil Scott-Heron mix by Giles Peterson. Or, depending on who you are, be baffled by the lyrical substance in the mix or by the lack of auto tune in the mix.

Jack Penate - Tonight's Today (Ophex 'Julianna Barwick' Remix)

Jack Penate - Tonight's Today (Ophex 'Julianna Barwick' Remix) by Ophex

Aout6 - Na Na Na (Ophex Remix)

Some new Tropical Bass from Ophex. Ophex is only 21 years old and hails from Lithuania. His music centers around Baile Funk, Kuduro, Baltimore and UK Funky sounds. I look forward to hearing more from this kid.

Hybu - No Wave (DEMENT3D PHANTOM RELEASE 007)

Some nice minimal ______ (fill in blank) by Hybu.

Ophex - Modelo

Some amazing new sample laden baile funk/b-more/remix/tropical beats from Ophex. The album is called Gringo De Janiero and I just located a free download (and you can too with some savvy search skills). Tracks off this album will def be played in my set late this week. I especially like his "Otherside" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers remix. Ophex for the win.

Amon Tobin 'ISAM' Live : Mutek Premiere (Official)

Amon Tobin is amazing. Here are some images/sounds/crowd reviews from his newest touring a/v show to promote Isam. I want to go to the London show very, very badly.

Amon Tobin 'ISAM' Live (Extended Trailer)

Amon Tobin has a new album out called Isam and a new visual show that he is touring with to promote the album/melt your mind. This show looks second to none as far as visual art goes. Dude continues to smash down walls and break new ground in art/media.

Pretty Lights - Hot Like Sauce

My favorite Pretty Lights track. Glitch (Hop) is creepin into your ear from all angles.

The Glitch Mob & La Roux - In For The Kill (The Glitch Mob Mashup)

This mashup of Glitch Mob's "Bad Wings" and La Roux's "In For The Kill" sounds like it was meant to go together. They make a nice sounding team.

Geeneus & Zinc - Emotions (Feat. Nikki Benoit)

Brilliant tune by Geeneus & Zinc. Nice mixture of the UK Funky beat with the muted trumpets, subtle beat variations and silky smooth vocals from Nikki Benoit.

Mr. Scruff - Get A Move On (Doorly Remix) [HQ]

The classic dance floor hit "Get A Move On" by Mr. Scruff gets a sped up/bassed up facelift by Doorly.

Shock Osugi feat Jasmine Joplin - Deeper (Bleepolar Remix)

I know nothing of Shock Osugi but I found this remix by looking up Bleepolar on youtube. I was surprised to find Bleepolar (who I am familiar with hearing produce cumbia based music/remixes) doing a remix of this more techno sounding track called "Deeper" (I also found another remix of Deeper by Phillip O which is solid too). Neither remix is quite UK Funky fresh but they do both have sort of a UK sound to them so I thought I would post to continue the theme of UK Funky I was posting a few weeks ago.

Crackle Wizard - Flanger Mouth

I had to post this minimal flanger-fest by Crackle Wizard. Ambient, minimal soundscape with a hint of d&b.

Amon Tobin - Deo

I was just playing this Amon Tobin track the other day and a friend of mine asked who it was and commented that it sounded like DJ Shadow. I can see why she would think that but it had never occurred to me before. I imagine the majority of people who like DJ Shadow have never heard of Amon Tobin and that is a real shame. Though I do like DJ Shadow, my ears tend to like Amon Tobin more than DJ Shadow and I think that might be the case for many if they only had the chance to hear him. My disclaimer here is that it is commonly said that Amon Tobin's tracks often take multiple listens to burrow deep into your brains pleasure zone. I agree with that, there is a certain patience required of the listener that is not there with DJ Shadow. His music, in particular, has grown on me at a different pace than almost all other artists but the appreciation level is right there with any other artist I enjoy. It is interesting how there are different paths of musical appreciation to your brains pleasure zone. For many, these alternative paths have been long neglected, are now overgrown with weeds and guarded by ugly, popular culture looking trolls.

Sabo & Cassady - "La Negra Chula"

To round out the Cinco De Mayo celebration here is another Latin club banger by Sabo & Cassady.

Mastiksoul - El Macho (Original Mix)

Hyper Latin Electro for all your ass bouncing needs.

Alex Kenji - Tropical Chicks go like dis(Moombahton)

And here is some Moombahton for Cinco De Mayo as well. It is a little known fact that Cinco De Mayo is celebrated in America more than anywhere else so I thought I should post something American with clear Latin influences. Moombahton is just that type of music.

Frente Cumbiero - Pitchito

In honor of Cinco De Mayo he is an out of this world Cumbia by Frente Cumbiero (featuring R2D2?) called "Pitchito".

Dj Cam - London 1995 [Live]

DJ Cam produces mainly jazzy hip hop, trip hop and downtempo but the man has been known to get wicked on some drum & bass as well. I like how he drops the beat out of the bottom at 2:08 and it briefly takes on the sound of a 90s trip hop song only to ramp back up to d&b with some beautiful, jazzy keys creeping in. This is off his first album, underground vibes, from 1995.

Giorgio Moroder ♫ Chase (theme from Midnight Express)

Great electronic song or greatest electronic song? Giorgio Moroder turned 71 a few days ago so to honor him I am posting his epic track from the movie Midnight Express. I found a 12" of The Chase, from 1978, in a collection of dusty, discarded records a few years back, stared at it for a while moon-eyed and then quickly gave it a new home. Though this man was producing disco at the time, his work was so innovative that he ended up sort of signaling the end of disco music and beginning of things to come. His innovative work with synthesizers during the 1970s influenced New Wave, house, techno and electronic music in general. Here is a video of him in his studio and here is my favorite version of Blondie's "Call Me" (I found a 45 of this at a thrift store and discovered, moon-eyed again, that he produced this for Blondie on the B side) which he remixed with a pounding electronic beat way before it was ever cool to do. Even though he has produced and remixed many tracks, none have ever come close to the timeless sounds of "The Chase". With this track alone he solidified himself as a legend in electronic music.

Roska - Elevated Level (Kingdom edit ft. Brandy)

Another quality Kingdom edit, this one aimed at the dance floor. He didn't do too much to the original Roska beat, which is great alone, but adding the Brandy vocal chop where he did is brilliant.

Kingdom - If You Buck

Here is Kingdom's "If You Buck". It seems like an instrumental remix of "Keep It Rollin" by Kid Ink but isn't labeled as a remix.

WIN WIN - Interleave (Kingdom Remix) | HD

I really like the production flowing from the mind of Kingdom. The guy can seemingly remix anything into his own sound. This remix of Win Win's "Invterleave" has been in heavy rotation in my world lately.

25 Boards of Canada Songs in 30 minutes

Some mini clips from many Boards of Canada tracks making a sampler.

It Ain't My Fault by Mos Def and Lenny Kravitz - James Curd Remix

Another jazz oriented remix by James Curd. This song was created in response to the oil spill in the gulf of mexico almost one year ago today. It ain't my fault. It is the fault of an irresponsible, unprofessional, greedy, devilish oil company called BP.

Jazzbit - Sing Sing Sing (Yolanda Be Cool & DCup Radio Mix) [Video]

The classic swing tune Sing, Sing, Sing remixed by Dcup.

"Blame" by House Calls

Both Flosstradamus & James Curd (both from Chicago) have been producing and remixing dance tunes for sometime but I have never heard anything they have done together until they teamed up to call themselves House Calls. This is a track from a relatively new and unknown genre of music called Electroswing that is coming out of Western Europe and now is getting popular in Chicago (and I'm sure other cities). The world's first Electroswing club opened in London 2009 so it seems like it might be around for a minute.

Stevia (Susumu Yokota) - Sensitive Planet (1997)

Susumu Yokota pseudonym Stevia on some minimal chillout house.

Susumu Yokota - Saboten

Susumu Yokata it strange, incredible and as original as it gets. He has been releasing different types of electronic music for almost 20 years yet most music lovers have no idea who this mysterious Japanese enigma is. I was first exposed to his Image (1983-1998) album via a mad scientist friend who owned a record store and lent me a used store copy. I was confused by his music at first but the more life slowly melted away all that I thought I knew to be true, the more true Yokota's productions felt to my ears. Music that sounded non conventional with a lack of structure and order began to match the true nature of things and sound as real (at times more real than) as structured music.  I recently looked him up on youtube and there are some really cool visual art/videos that have been added to his music by fans. His music is often soundscape like and perfect for bizarre and beautiful visuals.

His works released under his own name are mainly electronic experimental albums with pieces of various genres mixed in but he has many pseudonyms that produce such genres as house, minimal house, ambient and glitch. In addition to Susumu Yokota he has releases albums under the following: Anima Mundi, Ebu, Prism, Ringo, Stevia, Ying & Yang, Yokota, 246, and an album with Rothko.

Toddska - Gal From England

New Tropical banger from Toddska. Toddla & Roska linked up to do the  'Toddska' EP. Tropical and bass meet head on.

Jan Jelinek - Do Dekor

Time to get back to some more ambient electronic music focusing clicks and cuts. I blame 4/20 for the shift. Here we have a mellow Jan Jelinek track from the wonderful ambient electronic album Loop-finding-jazz-records album.

Original Old School Perculator

I almost forgot what time it was. This is one of my favorite youtube videos ever, the new school sinks up with the old school to transform brilliance.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Tigre - Pocz & Pacheko

Here is a pretty chill UK Funky sounding tune from Pocz & Pacheko. I like the images, angles and effects in the video. They utilize technology while basing the video on nature and simplistic images which end up looking much more weighty than they would normally.

Happy Birthday Mix for Mary Jane

So in honor of my girlfriend Mary Jane's birthday on April 20th I decided I would post this mix I made for her a few years ago. It is about a half hour in length, the first half is reggae and the second half is hip hop. Enjoy.

Killed By Synth - baile FREAK (Estelle x Kid Kaio x KBS edit) remix video

The main message is that she can be a freak, in case you missed it.

Nicolas Jaar - Mi Mujer

I know everyone has been on Nicolas Jaar's nuts lately so I hesitated posting this. A lot of people don't understand how this guy is getting so many props in the last year. I am not familiar with much of his music but from what I have listened to it seems his "unremarkableness" (new word i just coined) is actually what makes him so fresh. In an ADHD age where there are so many monster build ups, unnecessary crescendos and grinding, wobbling bass at every corner of new music, it is refreshing to hear some talented, relentless balance that does not stray from funky head nodding for over 6 minutes. It won't snap your neck or make you have a seizure but it will certainly make you want to groove as you lose yourself in the beat. Another favorite track of mine by him is a chill soul take called "What My Last Girl Put Me Through", dig it.

Ramadanman - Revenue (Original Mix) [HQ]

This tune by Ramadanman has the distant feel of some Muslimgauze tracks (gotta love the darbukas rattling away). That is me saying a lot for Ramadanman as Muslimgauze is massive legend.

Kahn - Like We Used To (HD)

Nice new 2 Step from Kahn. It almost sounds like (but I think its just similar) there is a sample in this track from the Debruit song I posted a while back.

MadCoins - UK Funky mix for you, from me

I threw together a mix of some fresh UK Funky and some older UK Garage tracks. Free listen, free download over at Mixcrate. Enjoy.
