"Reef" from DJ /Rupture's Uproot mix

Nice, melodic flute based joint from DJ Rupture off his Uproot mix cd. Buy it here: Uproot. DJ Rupture is one of the freshest deejays out and if you don't know about him you should do your homework. He is one of those next level type deejays who makes music for advanced listeners and cultured/worldly music lovers. He is part ethnomusicologist, part record/sound collector, part producer, part deejay, part radio host, part historian, part political activist, part experimental musician and part street preacher. I don't care who your favorite deejay is, he/she is not that diversely talented. Mad respect to DJ Rupture for being a role model of what a deejay should aspire to be in an age where most only aspire to buy serato, download free music, turn the volume to 10 and party. Soon your 12 year old son will be able to do that so go get yourself some solid musical knowledge/substance in addition to being able to scratch a record. Know the roots and the branches of music because the leaves end up dying much quicker.

Begginer's Waltz - Bhutan Tiger Rescue (Pop Ambient 2011)

Beautiful ambient piece by Bhutan Tiger Rescue complete with dissonance at the end of the track. It is off of an album called Pop Ambient 2011 on the German 'Kompakt' record label.

Dance Yrself Clean - LCD Soundsystem - Muppets rock out in Brighton !

This is too good not to share. The muppets to anything is good but the muppets to Dance Yourself Clean by LCD Soundsystem live in front of a crowd on a Brighton, England (quite possibly my favorite British city) street is just great.

Shangaan Music (Tshetsha)

More South African Shangaan dance music for you. The dancing in this video is really good, yet mental and hysterical at the same time. Disclaimer: If you are freaked out by clowns this video will surely give you nightmares.

Zinja Hlungwani - Nwa Gezani My Love

And now for some modern African dance tunes: Nwa Gezani My Love by Zinja Hlungwani.

Shangaan dance music originates from South Africa and is built on of synthetic, sped-up rhythms, call-and-response vocals, and incessant repetition. The tracks from scene leading light Nozinja are so mind-meldingly fast that, to borrow a phrase from Andy Battaglia in his review of the compilation Shangaan Electro: New Wave Dance Music From South Africa, the music begins to sound almost psychedelically slow. This stuff can be hard to listen to straight through in one sitting-- it's so relentless, it might have you reaching for the Excedrin midway through-- which makes Zinja Hlungwani's compilation standout "Nwa Gezani My Love" the perfect sample of this sound. Hlungwani handles his sensual sentiments ("You're my desire") with a buttery croon, pleading, "What can I do, my baby/ I wanna make you mine," and giving the cut a smooth, almost-midtempo feel. Then, you watch the video, with footage of dancers doing their thing over the intoxicatingly busy rhythm that lies below "Nwa Gezani My Love", and you realize: this shit is addictive. If Shangaan doesn't make you want to dance, you should quickly check your pulse.

Débruit - Nigeria What? [HQ]

A afro-beat/2-step/wobbly/glitch banger from French producer Debruit.

Mr. Orzo - Last Night a DJ Killed My Dog - HD VJ Mix

Speaking of 2-step, I could see some wicked stepping happening to this Mr. Oizo track. The track is labled wrong on youtube, it's Oizo not Orzo. I am in the midst of creating a mix using solid club tracks so smile while I feed you some of my mind's runoff.

Florence and The Machine - You've Got The Love (XX Remix)

Who knew Florence and The Machine would sound so good 2-stepped? Remix by The XX.

DJ ZINC FT MS DYNAMITE - 'WILE OUT' OFFICIAL VIDEO (crack house)

Wile Out by DJ Zinc ft. Mrs. Dynamite is one of my favorite club jams to come out in the last year. I used to spin it in Madison before I moved to Austin and people liked it but were definitely not ready for it. I love tracks like these that are just ahead of the curve/their time. Dancefloor banger for sure.

PS My last two posts were 1960s clips of Delia Derbyshire, the 'unsung heroine of British electronic music'. She recorded the Dr. Who theme song and over 200 other tracks for early BBC radio and tv programs. The clip of her beat mixing with tape loops is ice cold. Learn more about her here.

Tokimonsta - The World Is Ours

I just featured this Tokimonsta track in my 21st Century Soul Mix. Tokimonsta is an artistic, intelligent, pretty, kind human who happens to make good quality music. Her blog (focusing on fashion, music & weird) is full of all kinds of odd, intriguing posts. Dig it here: TOKIMONSTA

LES TWINS "An Industry Ahead" | YAK FILMS | Music by B'zwax & Lafa Taylor

SLUGABED - QUANTUM LEAP (official video)

This video for Quantum Leap by Slugabed made me lean back my head back at the warp speed parts. The track and the video are quite a trip.

I'm Still Here Mix by Matt Cali

Dj Matt Cali and Russel Fong kick off 2011 with their new mixtape masterpiece "I'm Still Here". An unofficial soundtrack and ode to Oscar–nominated actor Casey Affleck's directorial debut starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Featuring music from artists such as Take, Glen Porter, Teebs, Tenshun, and more, "I'm Still Here" is a experimental electronic instrumental driven mix channeling the L.A. beat scene."I saw the film and was inspired by Joaquin's portrayal of a celebrity's psychological meltdown. At first, I was under the impression that his psychosis was real and felt like the music Russel had sent me could easily be the soundtrack to what was going on in Joaquin's mind," said Matt Cali, "immediately after watching the film I jumped on the turntables and in one session "I'm Still Here" the mixtape was done. It was only after completing the project did I even bother to check if the film was an actual documentary or an elaborate hoax....Lets just say I'm glad things happened in the order they did."

Kids take note, this is how you create a mix. You use creativity, multimedia and quality beats/tracks like this, leave Yung (insert name here) and Lil (insert name here) in your ipod.

Bonobo - Kiara HD

Again, Bonobo gets sick.

Lunice - Hitmane's Anthem

Lunice knocks it out of the atmosphere on this one. There is such an epic smooth flow to this track. Is it the soundtrack of slow, bubbling, about to burst revolution?

Tom Tom Club - Genius Of Love (The Pinker Tones Remix)

A rubbery electronic sounding remix of Tom Tom Club's Genius Of Love. The remix is done by The Pinker Tones. New Wave meets Glitch Wave?

Samiyam - Trick Platform

Going to see Samiyam @ Plush here in Austin tonight. It's going to be sicker than a staff infection and I am sure my neck will be sore and wobbly when the show is over and I sober up.

Robot Koch - Hard To Find [HD]

This track is so fresh I had to post the HD version so your speakers can weep like little girls when the track ends. Find more about this man here: Robert Koch

robot koch - hard to find

Robert Koch for the win! For the masterpiece! Brilliant video to zone out/in to as well.

El Remolon-Cumbia Lescanera (ft Pablo Lescano) vs Zaptap-Citizen 10

Big tune from El Remolon combining sick rhymes with ill cumbia beats. He has quite a few quality releases on the ZZK record label. Cumbia Hop taking over!

First Look Inside (Kalimba Video)

Some piece of mind and peace for your mind via a human and a 1300 hundred year old instrument (Kalimba).

Dabrye - Temper (Unofficial Music Video)

I have been a Tadd Mullinix aka Dabrye fan since the last millennium. Surprisingly, this is the only video I have found put to his music. Check out many of his tracks before you feel like you know his style as they can be quite a bit different from one another. His record label Ghostly International is worth a look and double look too.

New Mix: 21st Century Soul (Happy J Dilla Month, Valentine's Day)

Here is a soulful new mix I did inspired by J Dilla who has been gone for 5 years today (and the mix is just in time for Valentine's Day). Enjoy

Quasimoto - Come on Feet

Here is my favorite Quasimoto track, "Come On Feet". He samples the pants off of the Fantastic Planet theme song with great style. The character in the video reminds me of Tom Thumb in The Secret Adventures Of Tom Thumb, another of my all time favorite films.

Fantastic Planet chop by the late J Dilla (happy 37th birthday)

Here is more Fantastic Planet because I am obsessed with this film and because it is J Dilla's birthday today. The best animated movie ever made with the best producer there ever was is a good way to celebrate it. J Dilla would have been 37 year old today so here he is chopping the Fantastic Planet theme song by Alain Gorguer.

Boards of Canada - Olson

A brief, beautiful ambient tune by the wonderful Scottish duo Boards of Canada. The title is almost better than the track.

RAYMOND SCOTT - Cindy Electronium (1959) - Art Monad 144- モナド - 人生の花

Raymond Scott is an incredible musical scientist. He created jazz perfectly (here is his quintet tearing it up, many of their pieces were used in warner brothers cartoons) and composed electronic music in a far out way long before most people knew the term electronic music. This electronic piece is from the early electronic days, 1959. The music compilation called Manhattan Research (there's a track here) has been sampled by many musicians over the years. It left a big impression on my the first time I listened through it. I made a mixtape of all the madness on the compilation and still have it buried in the yard somewhere. I plan to dig it up one day and throw it online.

Tom Dissevelt & Kid Baltan - Song of the 2nd Moon

One of the earliest uses of an instrument called the moog sympathizer. It is a truly innovative recording from 1957. Lightyears ahead of its time, as well as ahead of Kraftwerk and Bruce Haack. This no doubt had profound effects on both of those artists just mentioned along with many more. To hear this when there was no such thing as electronic music must have been quite a mind/ear bending experience. Dick Raaymakers aka Kid Baltan is a Dutch composer, theater maker and music theorist. In the 50s, he and Tom Dissevelt, under the name Electrosoniks produced works of popular music by electronic means (which turned out to be the first attempts of their kind in the world). Also, I am pretty sure this track is what the Gilligan's Island theme is based off of.
