Giorgio Moroder ♫ Chase (theme from Midnight Express)

Great electronic song or greatest electronic song? Giorgio Moroder turned 71 a few days ago so to honor him I am posting his epic track from the movie Midnight Express. I found a 12" of The Chase, from 1978, in a collection of dusty, discarded records a few years back, stared at it for a while moon-eyed and then quickly gave it a new home. Though this man was producing disco at the time, his work was so innovative that he ended up sort of signaling the end of disco music and beginning of things to come. His innovative work with synthesizers during the 1970s influenced New Wave, house, techno and electronic music in general. Here is a video of him in his studio and here is my favorite version of Blondie's "Call Me" (I found a 45 of this at a thrift store and discovered, moon-eyed again, that he produced this for Blondie on the B side) which he remixed with a pounding electronic beat way before it was ever cool to do. Even though he has produced and remixed many tracks, none have ever come close to the timeless sounds of "The Chase". With this track alone he solidified himself as a legend in electronic music.
