ELOQ - Why Don't You (Lazer Sword Remix)

ELOQ - WHY DON'T YOU (LAZER SWORD REMIX) by LAZER SWORD
Here I give you a gear changing, floating remix of ELOQ from Lazer Sword. Lazer Sword might be my new favorite artist name of the month.

AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It (Lapalux's Bass Ballad Remix)

A smooth like butter remix of AlunaGeorge's "You Know You Like It" from Lapalux.

Frikstailers - Bicho De Luz (Atlas remix)

Bicho De Luz (Atlas remix) by TheAtlas
Very nice sound is created here using glitch style and backwards warped samples. Remix by TheAtlas, original is called Bicho De Luz (bug light) is by Frikstailers.

CNDO - TERMINATOR

Big UK Funky tune hereby CNDO. Apparently this one is big in Zimbabwe as well as the UK.

Champion - Lighter VIP

Nice UK Funky beat dropped here by Champion. Simplistic, beauty of a riddim.

Sully - Phonebox

Sully is an under the rader (underradarred) electronic producer that you should hear. So listen up and hear this 2-step banger of his.

The XX - Crystalised (Dark Sky Remix) (FULL)

Amazing bouncy, UK Garage like remix of this XX track by Dark Sky. Gets it moving. I heard this on my friend Bruce Blaq's most recent mix called "The Crying", you can find part 1 here.

Dro Carey - Much Coke (Cedaa Remix) & Cedaa xlr8r mix

This is another smooth remix from Cedaa. While many young producers have taken up the bass and juke mantle in the past year or two, few have done so while matching the quality of the output being produced by 21-year-old Cedaa (a.k.a. Simon Ho).

I'm liking the sneakers in gymnasium into dolphin speak at the beginning. wtf? I like the original production oozing from this dude's mind. Here is a really fresh mix he did about a month ago for xlr8r too.

Modern Science DJ mix - Genre Jumping Jesters (part 1 of 2)

I don't always post all of my mixes on this blog because much of the time they are not in line with the theme of this blog but in this case I wanted to share it. Assuming most of the readers of this blog are open minded musically (and recognize that as a DJ you can't rock obscure electronic music on repeat and get paid, shame that) you should enjoy at least the originality of the mix. Modern Science is a collective - you can follow myself on Twitter: @MadCoins and BruceblaQ on Twitter: @BruceblaQ

BruceblaQ and MadCoins (these are links to our mixcrate homepages where you can download more of our free mixes), 2 alchemists from the Modern Science collective, mix together some current underground remixes and some forgotten overground gems for a science lesson in how to create an genre jumping dance party. This is part 1 of 2 of a live mix from Natt Spill bar recorded 10/15/11. Part two will be posted next, 2 hours in total.

Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX - I'll Take Care Of U (Special DJ Version)

I don't know if I am more sad that Gil Scot-Heron has died or more happy that Jamie XX worked with him right before his death. His voice is such an intricate part of music yet he is so unknown to the masses. I just can't say enough about how much he "deserved" the exposure and 21st century sound that Jamie XX so respectfully helped him find.

Jamie XX - Essential Mix (2 hours on BBC radio)

Jamie xx Essential Mix by Young Turks
Speaking of Jamie XX, sit back and melt into this 2 hour mix he recently sewed together for BBC radio. ESSENTIAL!

Far nearer (Nadastorm & Sabo Moombahton Edit)

I posted the original version of this track a while back but had to also post this moombahton remix as it is massively beautiful. Jamie XX always makes me feel better.

Jacques Greene - Another Girl

This is such a nice track. You got me feelin like a...

Jacques Greene - The Look (Koreless Remix)

Beauty of a remix by Koreless. I will post the original "Another Girl" by Jacques Greene next, also a beauty.

Four Tet - Pyramid (Video 2011)

Four Tet FTW on this ass shaker of a dance track. The video, from Destino, a collaboration by Salvador Dali and some animation company, suits the piece nicely. "This mix is not about my DJing. It's about London and fabric and nights out and my take on all that. The memories and the influences. I used old and new music, I used recordings of fabric, and I made new tracks of my own for it. I hope people play it fucking loud and lose their minds in it and remember or imagine what it's all about." - Four Tet

Theo Parrish - Dirt Rhodes

Theo Parrish can produce electronic beats that make you move your feet. No surprise he is from Detroit. He is known for his Deep House cuts but I personally like his tracks that are abstract, less melodic and less Deep House sounding. The man often does in his production what I, and countless other producers, have felt is an essential part of producing: He records sounds from his environment to sample, study and learn from. Field recording can definitely learn you something special about audio.

"Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn Deejaying into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement." - Theo Parrish

Ooah - Hacksaw

Beauty of a glitch track right here. One of the best glitch tracks I have heard in a long minute. This is the type of glitch good modern freestyle dancer will become possessed by. And because we are all freestyle dancers, I say become possessed with this one right now. I know what your thinking, "Oh I couldn't, I'm at Grandmas house what will she think?" She'll dig more than anything since the Charleston, go for it.

Mount Kimbie - Carbonated [Crooks & Lovers]

...cuz i feel like i have been listening to this sound for about 13 years now and to me it has sounded like the future the whole time, not just now. Beat by Mt. Kimbie.

Mossilator - Bolero

Mosillator - Bolero 192 kbps - From Filtered Forest EP coming soon..
This is quite an epic sounding global bass production from Mosillator. Mossilator wants his identity to remain unknown, to shift the focus from the maker to the actual music. If you know who he is then do that imaginary key to your lips and then throw away motion to help him out.

Dreams of the Elementary Wood by Natasha Miroshnichenko

Dreams of the Elementary Wood from Natasha Miroshnichenko on Vimeo. More Nobukazu Takemura set to a nice piece of stop motion. Regretfully I forget the name of this Takemura track (it goes on for much longer than the length of this video) but if it comes to me I will be sure to update this post. I encourage the comment if you know what it is called.

Nobukazu Takemura - Toybox With Moonshine

Nobukazu Takemura is one of my very favorite electronic producers in the history of the universe. I am posting a track that sounds like a conversation unheard by human ears between toys inside of a toy box. What makes this track is brilliant is that one can hear electronic, punk, drum and bass, and experimental, esoteric goodness all wrapped up in one toy box of a track. Warning: this is full of audio madness, if you can't get down with some of Aphex Twin's more "out there" music don't even bother listening to this as it will probably cross your eyes and give you a head ache.

Aki Tsuyuko - Rainbow Train

Here is a floating little dreamworld like track from Aki Tsuyuko. I was just watching the NASA time-lapse video of earth from space (my last post) with this as the soundtrack. It works pretty well together and has a different effect (no better or worse in my opinion just beautifully different) than the Jan Jelinek track it is embedded with. It is a really nice track to just drift away to.

Jan Jelenik - Do Dekor (set to gorgeous time-lapse view from space)

Earth | Time Lapse View from Space, Fly Over | NASA, ISS from Michael König on Vimeo.

I have posted this Jan Jelenik track previously on this blog but never with such a stunning visual experience. This is one of Jan Jelenik's best tracks and I am crazy glad Michael Konig chose it to use as a soundtrack for this time-lapse piece. There is something very earthly and human about this track but, at the same time, the way it sounds it is anything but earthly and human. Did that make any sense? Don't answer that.

Answer this: What’s it like to fly above Earth and observe the landscape? This new time-lapse video from Michael König shot aboard the International Space Station gives you a view of Earth that was only available to a select handful of astronauts until now.

Witness the swirling Aurora Borealis from above, or effortlessly glide across the world’s largest deserts in seconds. At minute 2:26 you can see lightning storms over the Sinai Peninsula, as the ISS flies north and east towards Turkey and Central Asia. And if you watch closely throughout, it’s not difficult to make out major landmarks, such as the Nile River in Egypt, the Great Lakes, in the U.S., or the boot shape of Italy.

Time lapse sequences of photographs taken with a special low-light 4K-camera by the crew of expedition 28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October, 2011. All credit goes to them.

Space is the place!

Nicolas Jaar - Hey Boy

Nicolas Jaar will kick your preconceived notions of music in the face and clean his boot off with your hair if you dare doubt his talent. Dude is on something the rest of us are not and he is gonna keepon.

Moogfest - Featured on NPR

It has been a while since I posted some history of the electronic scene so here is a great hour plus program on NPR's All Songs Considered about the recent Moogfest (honoring Robert Moog, inventor of the Moog synthesizer). I have not yet been to a Moogfest but I plan to go to Ashville, N.C. one of these years to experience this unforgettable gathering of new and old school electronic artists. This comes highly recommended.

If it weren't for Robert Moog, a lot of the music you enjoy today might not have been possible. As inventor of the Moog synthesizer, he gave rise not only to the technology needed for modern electronic music, but also to the creative spirit that inspired countless musicians to take his vision and play with it, mold it and reshape it into mind-blowing works of art.
2 weekend ago, a remarkably gifted group of electronic and experimental rock artists gathered to celebrate Moog's genius in Asheville, N.C., for the annual Moogfest. All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen and NPR Music reporter Jacob Ganz were there and, on this week's show, report back with some of their favorite discoveries, including music from Amon Tobin, The Field, Tangerine Dream and Tim Hecker.
Brian Eno also presented his breathtaking sound and visual installation 77 Million Paintings, and the influential minimalist composer Terry Riley performed for nearly two hours. There were DJ sets from Flying Lotus and James Murphy, as well as prog-rock from Battles.

Awolnation - Sail (Dance performance by Arthur Cadre)

Break ton Neck from Alex Yde on Vimeo.

It's been a minute since I posted some brilliant dancing so here is Arthur Cadre’s amazing breakdance performance to the song “Sail” by Awolnation. Just watch it, you'll be glad you did.

Free mixes by DJ MadCoins - The Sunday Supper sets

Enjoy 3 new sets of music (vols 1 & 2 are posted there as well) from my Sunday residency at TenOak in Austin, Tx. They are all full of genre jumping goodness. The mixes are all a bit different but include soulful hip hop, soul,  downtempo, reggae, world beat, breakbeat, rock, left field remixes, mashups and moombahton. These sets are meant to help you listen away the hangover from Saturday night and let you forget the dread of Monday morning work. As always free downloads are available. Enjoy.

Shlohmo - Couch (Soosh Remix)

And speaking of perfect for a chill listening session on a late fall day, check this piece out. This one is sooo slow it almost goes backwards. Great for contemplation and relaxation.

Soosh - Bramhall Waits

Bramhall waits by Soosh
A nice wonky, almost ambient electronic piece from Soosh. Perfect for a listen with late fall weather howling at your windows.

Hackman - Close

Big tune from Hackman. Samples the Alecia Keys track "No One" in a slowed down fashion.

Jay Fay - Jungle

Jay Fay - Jungle by El Cuco Recordings
A monster Moobahton track from Jay Fay from the newly released album: The Rise of Moombahton “Today We Were Kings". I give the album a C+ but this particular track an A. But it must be noted I am not a teacher so my grading scale really means fuck all. I love the drum patterns, the jungle field recording samples, kalimba like sounds and the fact that synth sounds/stabs aren't too much of the focus like in a lot of Moobahton tracks.
